Emergent Generation Online - Assessing Soil Health Via Energy Flows with Jed Soleiman
Wed 21 Jan
|Online (Zoom)
Measuring energy flows in ecosystems is emerging as a possible novel way to measure their health, helping understand elements such as diversity and function under one metric. In this session, Em Gen'r, Jed, will share his journey into soil research and tell us about his first field trials at FarmED.

About the event
Measuring energy flows in ecosystems is emerging as a possible novel way to measure their health, helping understand elements such as diversity and function under one metric. Applying this framework to soil could offer a promising approach to quantify ecosystem change following interventions, allowing us to follow the cascade of ecological impacts that create differences to soil health over time.
In this session, Em Gen'r, Jed, will share his journey into soil research and tell us about his work with FarmED. We will explore this soil energetics framework and look at some results from the first field trials at FarmED on the regenerative arable rotation, quantifying the restorative effects of herbal leys, and a wider potential roll out.
Jed Soleiman is a DPhil (PhD) student at University of Oxford, Leverhulme Centre for Nature Recovery; Soils Technical Lead and Knowledge Exchange at CHCx3. He has been a member of Emergent Generation…
