Growing The Network From The Bottom Up

We grew Emergent Generation from the bottom up. It started with an idea and a passion for change, leading to a co-design workshop with our first young network members and our inaugural events supported and led by partners and volunteers.
As we formalised the network in 2024 and became a standalone Community Interest Company (limited by guarantee) we started to develop our governance and reach. Becky and Jonty agreed to be the first Directors with more to follow. They currently lead Emergent Generation and are supported by a brilliant steering group of young EG members.
In 2025 we asked the community how they wanted to evolve and thanks to fresh funding from Esmée Fairbairn Foundation and CHK Foundation we were able to make these exciting developments:
-
Two Steering Group members (Danielle and Tristan) stepped up to become Non-Executive Directors
-
We appointed a young Steering Group Lead (Bogi) and a Deputy (Giacomo)
-
We have recruited 10 new steering group members (delivering events and overseeing what we do)
-
We have employed a part-time Events & Comms Coordinator (Tommy)
-
Becky and Jonty are employed as part-time Executive Directors to lead the day-day.

Take a look at the visual below to see roughly how our governance is evolving.

All our signed up members are encouraged to get involved, have their say and to steer our work. Further outreach and audience engagement is planned for the future. Over time, we will be looking to recruit a diverse mix of Non Executive Directors to be our critical friends.
We love being a bottom up and inclusive organisation, doing things a little differently. Please get in touch if you want to know more about our structure and ways of working, or if you want to help out.

"I had the idea for Speakers' Corner because I wanted to create a space where others could find their voice in the group, because everyone there has something interesting and important to say. Emergent Generation has given me the confidence and support to set it up and DO it." - Mitch, Stockman at Phepson Angus
