Sustainable Farming Campaign Officer, Sustain

Location

Why I joined EmGen

I joined Emergent Generation in 2024, because I'm interested in how we can get more people back onto land. In my day job, I work on campaigning for policies that can address the power imbalances in our food system and for better policies for new entrants. On a personal level, I also want to meet other young people like myself who want to make growing food a greater part of their lives.

Interests

My work at Sustain is all about campaigning for better government policies, legislation and funding to bring about a transition to a more sustainable food and farming system. I'm interested in all things farming, especially agroecology, supply chain fairness, and land access. I also enjoy growing food and flowers on my allotment, and experimenting with home composting.

Knowledge signposts

📚The book that first opened my eyes to the challenges with our current food system was "The One-Straw Revolution" by Masanobu Fukuoka.

📘"English Pastoral" by James Rebanks offers a brilliant history of farming in England and how we got to where we are today.

If you're interested in the politics of food, sustainability and farming, stay up to date with Sustain's blog, news, events and reports.

Educational/training highlights

I've been working in research, policy and advocacy within the non-profit sector since 2020. Previously, I worked in publishing and academia.

How I can support other members
