Interests
As a foodie I have a strong interest for sustainable diets, and for the link between nutrient density, flavour and health. Favourite quote by Michael Pollan: “The way we eat represents our most profound engagement with the natural world. Daily, our eating turns nature into culture, transforming the body of the world into our bodies and minds.”
At Anthesis, I lead on food loss and waste measuring and reporting projects and I do research on financing sustainable and regenerative agriculture, among many other bits. By working on projects for large private agrifood sector companies, including food retailers and manufacturers, I am grasping the complexity of global food supply chains and gaining understanding of corporate sustainability strategies.
Educational/training highlights
Undergraduate degree in International Relations (Critical Security Studies) during which I came across environmental politics and policy. This drove me to pursue an MSc in Environmental Technology, where I chose to specialise in sustainable food systems. Working many hospitality jobs I also picked up decent barista and food service skills.
Knowledge signposts
Why I joined EmGen
I deeply believe a supportive network has a crucial role in helping to navigate the current climate crisis by inspiring and encouraging us to take action, which is why I feel passionate about connecting people with shared interests via Emergent Generation! EG has provided me the opportunity to get closer to the farming and food producing community and access to a resourceful and positive network of wonderful people.
How I can support other members
Advice for careers in ‘corporate’ sustainability and consultancy, share knowledge on financing tools for sustainable agriculture in the UK / Europe and on food loss and waste measurement and reporting.
My next steps
Reflect on my career choices and project experiences, identify a path that is more engaging with the people / land and nature and figure out the skills I need to develop to pursue the path. Keep building and growing EG.
