Mitch Green

Stockman at Phepson Angus

Location

Worcestershire, UK

Why I joined EmGen

I joined Emergent Generation as someone passionate about food, farming and nature, but with no connections or pathway to build a career in the industry. EmGen showed me there are many others like me and the community has opened up doors for me and my career. I am now passionate about fostering the network and supporting others to bring about change.

Interests

I work as a stockman managing a herd of 100+ suckler cows using regenerative grazing. More broadly, I am also interested in wider food systems and the role of governance in food system transformation. I am also passionate about facilitating cross-disciplinary connection, communication and dialogue as a driver of meaningful change.

Knowledge signposts

📚 Paulo Friere - Pedagogy of the Oppressed

- A tough read at times but essential for anyone wanting to bring about change. Explains how to create change *with* the people not *for* the people.

📚 The MSP Guide

- A handbook for designing and facilitating multi-stakeholder partnerships.

📚 Isabella Tree - Wilding

Educational/training highlights

  • BSc Zoology, University of Leeds

    • Combining my interests for ecology and wildlife with livestock production science.

  • MSc Sustainable Food Systems, University of Leeds

    • Putting my passion for nature-friendly farming into the wider context of the food system.

  • 3LM Holistic Management Fundamentals

    • Furthering my interest in big-picture thinking

  • University Pig Farm, Dairy, Lambing, Calving

    • Gaining practical on-farm skills alongside studying.

How I can support other members

I facilitate regular EmGen Speakers Corner online sessions where members can host discussions, workshops, or talks on a topic of their choice. This is a great way to introduce yourself to the group or find out what other people think about your passion. I have knowledge and practical experience working in regenerative grazing systems. I can connect other members with my network.

My next steps

I want to further explore facilitation by hosting FFCC Food Conversations and getting involved with farmer clusters and other community groups. I need help from people who are good at organising events or who would like to get their community talking about food!
